Project Description: The mission of the Zimbabwe Department of Meteorological Services is to contribute towards safety of life and property, and the sustainable socio-economic development of Zimbabwe through the provision of relevant, credible, quality, timely and cost-effective meteorological products and services. The Department of Meteorological Services is a Government Department under the Ministry of Transport and Communications. It is a member of the World Meteorological Organization.
The Department has been trying to promote the application of El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) based seasonal climate forecasts in a number of socio-economic development activities, particularly agriculture and the management of community affairs. The aim of this programme is to promote sustainability transition. The success has been limited because of society's conflicting goals. Seasonal climate forecast information is, however, beginning to be readily used in determining paprika production strategies and management of malaria.
