25 March 2002 - 26 March 2005 Ottawa, Canada
Sponsors/Organizers Organized locally by Carleton University, with support from the Government of Canada Co-Chaired by Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Visiting Professor, University of Toronto, and former Executive Director, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP); and Dr. Stuart Smith, Chair, National Roundtable on the Environment and the Economy
The Ottawa Workshop was one of a series of regional meetings to explore the design and implementation of science programs and related activities that would support transitions to sustainability. This workshop considered the major themes identified through the international initiative started in Friibergh (i.e., core science questions, research strategies, barriers and obstacles, and institutional innovations). This frame was focused through a discussion of some key issues (air, water, ecosystems, atmosphere and human health) which cut across the region but offer different challenges, experiences and lessons.
