04 September 2003 - 10 September 2003 Norwich, United Kingdom
Sponsors/Organizers Hosted by the Zuckerman Institute for Connective Environmental Research, School of Environmental Sciences, University of East Anglia
The third in a series of high-profile events addressing how to create a more sustainable way of living, the Third Sustainability Days consisted of a series of seminars, workshops, conferences, and lectures to mark the official opening of the Zuckerman Institute. The Zuckerman Institute represents a new venture in trans-disciplinary research, connecting environmental science with centers of policy-making and with agents of change in society. This event provided leading local, national, and international researchers and practitioners with an opportunity to engage, interact, and shape new environmental research agendas more strongly connected to society's need for sustainable development, addressing not only local and regional issues but also global-scale challenges. Topics to be covered included: ways in which the research community can facilitate the transition towards a sustainable and secure low-carbon energy economy; governance and science for sustainability; the Community Carbon Reduction Project (CRed); justice and equity in adaptation to climate change; ecological economics; the evolution of climate and atmospheric chemistry, and the role of the oceans in climate regulation; and the EU Biofuels Directive and its role in climate protection. Many of the conference sub-events were by invitation only, but some were open to the public. For further information contact Laura Middleton at laura.middleton@uea.ac.uk.
