Conversation on Sustainability Trends and Transitions
10 July 2002 - 13 July 2002
Boston, Massachusetts, United States

The objective of this workshop was to review the state of research on sustainability trends and transitions and articulate a research agenda for the future. A broad set of scientists study long-term trends in nature and society and seek to understand them and to integrate them in models and scenarios. More recently, others have attempted to characterize a sustainability transition and identify indicators and policies that move towards the transition. Still others try to understand transitions as general phenomena with changes in phase or state. This workshop intended to engage this group of scientists in a conversation that focused on sharing recent work, pursuing an agenda for critical research into long-term trends and transitions, and exploring avenues for collaboration.
