Narpat S. Jodha is Policy Analyst at the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) in Kathmandu, Nepal. His PhD is in Agriculture and Resource Economics from the University of Jodhpur in India. At times described as a student of fragile environments, Jodha had the opportunity to engage in research, training and advisory work for a period exceeding a decade each in dry tropics (of India as well as Africa) and mountain regions (i.e., countries of Hindukush-Himalaya), while associated with Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) centers such as the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), ICIMOD, World Bank and Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) as well as several national and bilateral agencies. The thematic focus of Jodha's largely problem-centered work has been on technologies for sustainable agriculture and resource management in fragile resource zones, adaptation strategies against weather risks and environmental change, common property resources and participatory natural resource management, poverty and public policies, and repercussions of the rapid globalization process for the fragile mountains and their communities. Jodha has been associated as a member of the executive/advisory committee or board of trustees or editorial board of journals of over half a dozen organizations dealing with the above subjects. Based on his work on the above subjects, he has published several papers and books. For his socially and policy wise relevant work in different fields, Jodha has been recognized as a Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science, San Francisco
