Jorge Brenner's background includes studies in Marine Biochemical & Environmental Engineering, GIS, and Remote Sensing in Mexico & the US. He has worked as a coordinator of the GIS Lab at the ITESM University, and Director of the Pronatura's National Conservation Information Center (Mexican NGO from 1999-2002). At present, he is a PhD candidate of the Marine Sciences Program at the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain. His research and professional experience and interests are:
(A) Biodiversity and ecoregion based conservation. Resource assessment and ecosystem functioning. Indicator system development and modelling;
(B) Natural resources spatial analysis and synthesis. Geographic Information Systems and satellite remote sensing. Environmental change analysis and monitoring;
(C) Integrated Coastal Zone Management. Coastal and marine conservation.  Sustainable Development adaptive planning and management;
(D) Systems thinking for environmental management. Knowledge systems and learning communities; and
(E) Environmental Information Technology and systems. Biodiversity and conservation informatics. Grid computing. Environmental data centre design and implementation.

He plans to contribute at academic & professional level to the field of Sustainable Development of the coastal area with a vision of applied systems in developing countries when he finishes his PhD in late 2006.
