OPPORTUNITIES
Director, School for Environmental Research, Charles Darwin University (The
Director, school for Environmental Research will be a research leader with an
international reputation who can consolidate and extend the profile of the
School for Environmental Research. You will be able to inspire, extend and
expand the school’s team of researchers investigating the environment in
northern Australia and the Asia-Pacific Region, the livelihoods those
environments support, the threats to the region’s biota and landscapes, the
sustainability of land uses, particularly in the face of climate change, and the
most effective ways of providing research-based evidence for public policy
formulation. As the Director, you should have had experience of both
cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural research, and will be alert to the public
policy formulation process and ways in which research can be used to guide it.Charles Darwin University, Australia) Senior Science Leader CSIRO Sustainable Ecosystems (Through our core strengths in ecology, agricultural science, urban science,
economics, social science and systems integration CSIRO Sustainable
Ecosystems (CSE) works in partnerships with industries, land managers,
communities and policy makers towards science-based solutions that are both
relevant and significant in the affairs of Australia. Strong science combined
with research and end-user partnerships are intended to ensure CSE asks the
right questions and delivers meaningful and enduring outcomes to the people who
govern, manage and live in Australia’s unique natural and built environments.
We are committed to scientific excellence, delivered at local, regional and
national scales to ensure relevance and impact. Our research expertise is
increasingly delivered in an integrated way through landscape-based activities
and partnerships with communities, industries and institutions.
By working with our partners in government, industry and the wider community
we will continue to grow the positive social and economic impact we have on
individual enterprises, and in rural, regional and urban communities. While we
aim to address the immediate issues facing our partners and clients, we also
recognise an important responsibility to provide the scientific underpinning and
stimulus to the national debate on the long-term sustainability of Australia.
Our pathway to impact lies in better practice and policy and in enhanced human
and institutional capability at a range of local, regional, national and
potentially international scales.
Within our Rangelands and Savannas group, we are seeking
to appoint an outstanding and highly experienced scientist. As the Research
Group Leader, you will be the driving force behind our Alice Springs staff and
facilities, and more generally, to CSIRO’s research engagement
with arid Australia and the people who live in it.
In this empowering role, you will have the opportunity
to:
Make a significant contribution to the development of
our research directions
Establish and forge new research projects, teams and
long-lasting partnerships
Conduct your own research in areas of strategic
importance to Australia's future
Through high quality science and its impact, make a
difference to those living in arid Australia
To be successful, you will have a strong science
background, with the ability and drive to make an impact not only within the
scientific community, but at management and policy levels as well. You will be
challenged to build and maintain collaborations and relationships with our
partners and stakeholders, as well as indentifying new avenues for growth and
funding. Your demonstrated research commitment leading to the integration of
biophysical processes into management impacts and policy responses, as well as
regional economies, community governance and people’s livelihoods, will see you
thrive in this unique and exciting role based in the middle of Australia's
beautiful deserts. Alice Springs, Australia) |
